Requirements
DMV Permit Requirements
- You must be 15 1/2 years old
- An original or certified copy of U.S birth certificate, passport or green card
- Social Security Number (SSN)
- Completion of Driver Education Certificate (pink or blue slip)
- A parent of a legal guardian must sign below the “Acknowledgement Statement” on the Completetion of Driver Education certificate form before you go to the DMV
- Complete the DMV application (DL44)
- Your parent’s or legal guardian’s signature is required on the DMV application (DL44)
- $26 (Please check the DMV Driver handbook for the price)
- Pass your vision test
- Pass the DMV permit test
DMV Driver License Requirements
- You must be 16 years old
- Hold your permit for at least 6 months
- You must call to make an appointment for the DMV driving test
- You must have completed at least 50 hours of supervised driving with your parent or legal guardian (10 hours must be driving at night)
- Completion of 6 hours behind the wheel training with a Driving School (the gold certificate)
- Pass the DMV driving test to obtain your California Driver License
